” There is a rhythm to our language. It echoes the rhythm of our life.”

By the time their son was five, Timothy Archibald and his wife had realized there was something different about Eli. Reluctant to use the term ‘Autistic Spectrum’, It was nevertheless obvious that he went to the beat of his own drummer.
More than just documentation, Timothy’s photographs of his son Elijah are a partnership between the two of them, working as peers to explore this ‘Great Unknown’ and learn about themselves and each other.
The process of making these images, from Eli’s age 5 to 8, formed a bond and a shared understanding between the two of them.
Acknowledging difference and finding the beauty in it rather than denying it, “in the end we didn’t get any tangible answers…but amidst it all we built a bridge.”
